Ambiguous orientation
Resolve ambiguous orientation with DXF Material Prep, or suppress it for materials with symmetric finish.
Ambiguous orientation is a validation warning for parts where the exporter cannot work out which way up to run them — which face should be the front, and which the back (the face that lies down on the machine bed).
That matters when stock has a preferred face (veneer, coating, grain). See Validation warnings.
When the warning appears
Typically when the outline is asymmetric and there are no partial-depth pockets, holes, or other features on one face only that would settle orientation. An L-shaped bracket or a notch on one corner only are common examples.
Resolve with DXF Material Prep
When the selected face matters, use DXF Material Prep to preview the effective back face and flip the necessary parts, then revalidate.
Suppress the warning for symmetric material
When validation flags parts with ambiguous orientation, affected material pills show an extra control. Click it to toggle symmetric finish for that material.
The toggle applies per material label (including the No material group) and is remembered in this browser. It suppresses the warning because either face is acceptable; it does not change part orientation. Hover a material pill to preview those parts in the graphics area.
Revalidate after changing Material Prep inputs, model geometry, or symmetric-finish settings.
